This tour is a great introduction to Dubrovnik and an ideal way to explore the best of what Dubrovnik has to offer in one day. The tour begins with a drive along the coast with stops to enjoy the stunning views and take some photos. It then continues up to Srdj Hill, which is the site of a major battle during the 1990’s war. At the peak there is a large war memorial, a fascinating was museum, and spectacular views of the Old Town below. For the second half of the tour you will be taken to the Old Town for a walking tour of the walled city. Tour guides are licensed and have expert knowledge of the city and its history.

Konavle is a beautiful region with sprawling countryside and unspoiled coastline that begins about 30 minutes south of Dubrovnik. While technically not in Konavle, Cavtat acts as the gateway to this region and makes an ideal first stop on any tour. The village of Cavtat sits on an attractive harbor with several nice beaches and moorings for yachts during the summer months. The highlight of the village is its beautiful waterfront promenade full of restaurants, cafes, and ice cream shops. Here you will have time to explore Cavtat’s small side streets and relax by the sea. After leaving Cavtat you will continue on to the valley of Konavle where you will enjoy the scenery and explore some of the region’s small villages. While in the valley you are surrounded by mountains and landscapes that are often compared to the famous Tuscany region in Italy. Here you can choose to stop for lunch at one of Konavle’s many restaurants, which are well known for their locally-sourced products and meat cooked “under the iron bell”. Please note that lunch is not included in the price of the tour and if you wish to eat meat “under the iron bell” it must be ordered a day in advance; please request lunch when booking the tour.

FOLKLORE TOUR OF CILIPI (available only on Sunday mornings from 1 May to 31 October)
The small village of Cilipi is one of the best preserved sites in the Konavle valley. The main attraction is the majestic Saint Nicholas’s Church which presides over the town’s central square. The tour will start with a chance to view the church and attend a Catholic mass if you wish. This is followed by a walking tour of the village and some shopping for homemade traditional souvenirs. The main event, however, is the traditional folk dancing performance held in the main square. This is a centuries-old tradition continued today by Cilipi locals. You are sure to enjoy the traditional costumes, dances, and music which make this a true cultural experience. This half-day tour includes a visit to the beautiful arboretum in the village of Trsteno and a tour of the historic town of Ston. The first stop is at the arboretum, which is spread over 63 acres on a bluff overlooking the sea. You can wander through meandering footpaths surrounded by hundreds of different Mediterranean, American, and Asian plants. You will easily get lost in the peacefulness of it all as you listen to the sounds of flowing water, light breezes, birds, and frogs. Next stop is the town of Ston which sits at the gateway to the Peljesac peninsula. Ston’s biggest attraction may be its 5km long fortified wall (the biggest in Europe and second only to the Great Wall of China worldwide), but the town is best known locally for its seafood. The town center is a maze of cobbled streets full of small restaurants with some of the freshest seafood in Croatia. The area is especially famous for its oysters and other shellfish. Your guide will show you around town and walk with you along a portion of the wall. You then have the option of stopping for lunch to try some of Ston’s famous seafood (please note that lunch is not included in the price of the tour). Finally you will go to Ston’s ancient salt works, where salt has been produced in the traditional way for over 1000 years. They are still worked today, producing an average of 1500 tons of salt per year. After a visit to the salt fields you will return to Dubrovnik. The Peljesac peninsula is known for its rugged terrain which provides great conditions for grape growing. It is these conditions combined with centuries of skill and tradition that help to create the region’s wines, which are among the best in Croatia. Of particular note are the red wines of Dingac, a rocky hillside facing the sea. The Peljesac wine region is not well developed for tourism, so it is best to hire a guide who knows which wineries offer tastings. At times the guide might call the owners personally and ask them to open their cellars for an exclusive tasting. This is a great opportunity to taste and buy wines that are rarely available in Dubrovnik and are seldom exported. On the way back to Dubrovnik you will have the option of stopping in Ston for an early dinner. Ston is famous for its local seafood, especially oysters and other shellfish (please note that dinner is not included in the price of the tour).

Korcula is one of the most beautiful islands on Croatia’s Adriatic coast. It has lots to offer holiday makers including a historic walled town, great beaches, and locally produced food and wine. While visitors can easily spend 2 or 3 days on the island, those with less time can see the historic town of Korcula on a daytrip from Dubrovnik. Your tour to Korcula will start with a drive through the beautiful wine region of the Peljesac peninsula to the seaside town of Orebic. At Orebic you will leave the driver behind and take a short 20-minute ferry ride to the Island of Korcula. Once there you will have a few hours to explore the museums, historic sites, and small cobbled streets of Korcula’s Old Town, which is rumored to be the birth place of the great explorer Marco Polo. You will also have time for lunch at one of the town’s many relaxing restaurants (lunch not included in the price of the tour), where you can soak up the laid-back island atmosphere. In the late afternoon you will board the ferry for Orebic where the driver will be waiting to take you back to Dubrovnik.

The small city straddles the Neretva River with its famous bridge, Stari Most, linking the two sides of the city. On one side lies the ethnically Croat Catholic neighborhood and the other side houses the cobbled Ottoman Quarter, home to the city’s Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims). This Ottoman Quarter is home to 16th century mosques, Turkish style houses, artist studios, and cafes. The most famous landmark in Mostar is Stari Most, meaning Old Bridge. It spanned the Neretva River for more than 400 years before being destroyed in the 1990’s war. It has since been rebuilt in all its former glory with hand-carved stone. In the summer months young men can be seen diving from the bridge into the river 75 feet below. Once in Mostar you will have time to enjoy the bridge, wander the city streets, and explore the Old Town on your own. Alternatively, you can hire a local guide for a walking tour of the city for an additional 50 EUR. Local guides are very knowledgeable and can offer great insight on what it is like to live in this fascinating city.

MONTENEGRO TOUR Montenegro is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations on the Adriatic Coast. Its close proximity to Dubrovnik makes it an excellent choice of daytrip for those staying in the Dubrovnik area. The beautiful coastal cities of Perast, Kotor, Budva, and Sveti Stefan are easily reached in a couple of hours by car and should not be missed. Your tour starts with a 45 minute drive through the beautiful Konavle valley before crossing the border into Montenegro. Once in Montenegro you will hug the stunning coastline until you enter the spectacular Bay of Kotor, home to several charming and historic villages. After a short stop in Perast you will continue on to Montenegro’s most interesting sight, the city of Kotor. At Kotor you will have plenty of time to explore the small cobbled streets on your own or to hire a local guide for a walking tour of the city for an additional 50 EUR. You can also avail of an optional boat trip to the Island Gospa od Skrpjela to visit the beautiful church and island museum. Tickets for the boat, church, and museum cost an additonal 10 EUR per person and include a local guide. The next stop after Kotor is the Budva Riviera. Budva’s Old Town offers a taste of tradition and romance in an otherwise thoroughly modern resort area. Though not quite as charming as Kotor, Budva is well worth a visit on the way to Sveti Stefan, a small island connected to the mainland by a natural causeway. Sveti Stefan is probably Montenegro’s most photographed site (it’s pictured above) and you should be sure to leave enough time to visit this legendary locale.

Over 1 million people per year make the pilgrimage to see the Medjugorje hillside where the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared to 6 children in 1981. Catholics from all over the world return to the small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina every year, some for months at a time. Many visitors to Dubrovnik choose to visit Medjugorje in a daytrip, some as a spiritual journey and some out of curiosity. Your tour will include stops at all the important religious sites including Saint James Church and Apparition Hill where the Virgin Mary sightings are said to have occurred. For those that want an in-depth walking tour of the sites, a local guide can be hired for an additional 50 EUR.

Konoba Konavle is a family-run restaurant located in the hills of Konavle, high above Dubrovnik and the Konavle valley. The restaurant, decorated in a rustic style that reflects the local culture, is famous for its homemade cuisine carefully prepared from locally-sourced ingredients. The menu includes a wide selection of homemade cheese and cured prsut (Croatian prosciutto), fresh, organically grown vegetables from local gardens, and meat slowly roasted under an “iron bell" (a traditional method of cooking meat in a metal dome buried in glowing embers). Lunch or Dinner must be ordered 1 day in advance; Aperitif (rakija or orahovica), Dalmatian smoked ham and cheese, lamb and veal under iron bell with potatoes, seasonal salad, home-made cake, and home-made wine costs less than 30 EUR per person. Attention foodies: this is a dining experience that should not be missed on any trip to Croatia!
DURATION: afternoon or evening Price for transportation to and from the dinner party is: 1-3 people: 80 EUR 4-7 people: 110 EUR 8-18 people: 220 EUR PEKA COOKING CLASS  Peka, or meat cooked “under the iron bell”, is one of the most traditional methods of Croatian cooking. It involves slow cooking meat (usually lamb and veal) and potatoes under an iron or earthenware dome buried in smoldering embers. The method and tradition has been passed on through the generations and is still practiced in Croatian homes today, in a purpose built “taverna”. On this excursion you will be taken to a traditional taverna in the hills surrounding Dubrovnik for a Peka cooking lesson. The dinner includes meat “under the iron bell”, traditional starters like local cheese and prsut (Croatian smoked ham), locally-grown salad, homemade bread (which you will learn to make), and locally-produced wine. To preserve the authenticity of the experience, tours are limited to a maximum of 8 people.
